Travelling to The RA Initiative

How to get to The RA Initiative from the UK

Flights are available from London Heathrow or Gatwick to Lima International

I personally use LATAM (Latin American Airlines) from London Heathrow or Gatwick because it's easier to link with Iquitos if there is a delay and you cannot get on the Iquitos flight - they are responsible for getting you on to another flight without extra cost or hassle. Its not uncommon for the internal flights to Iquitos to be delayed . Be aware, they can use other airlines for the initial part of the journey

Jorge Chávez International Airport (IATA: LIM, ICAO: SPJC, SPIM) is the main international airport serving Lima, the capital of Peru.

Walk to the National Airport which is part of the same building.

NB - At the point of departure LATAM (or the airline they are using) have a habit of assuring you that your bags will be automatically loaded onto the Iquitos flight - don't believe them. Check when you arrive and you will find you will need to collect your bags in the International arrival section and check them in again in the Internal (National) departure section (on the ground floor) before you go to the next level up for your last flight.

Flight from Lima to Iquitos

Coronel FAP Francisco Secada Vignetta International Airport (IATA: IQT, ICAO: SPQT) is an airport serving Iquitos, capital of Loreto Region and Peru's fifth largest city.

Iquitos Airport to the town

Either Taxi (around 20 -25 Sol) or Moto Car (3 wheeler - around 15 Sol, they willask for more) to the tourist area - Plaza De Armas. Eleven of the hotels listed below are either there or very close.

Most people would stay at a hotel in Iquitos for at least one night rather than go straight to the office for transfer to the RA Initiative on the day of arrival .

I have stayed at all of these hotels and they are decent value for money and all within 5-6 mins walk of the office where you would leave from. Depending on your budget - most expensive first:

Doubletree (Hilton)
Jungle House - (next door to the office.)
Hostal Huayruro - can be cheaper if you call them separately rather than use a website booking if you are on a budget.
La Casona
(And many others which I don't know of personally.)

Meet Mariella at the office at the time specified - full address:
Pevas 113-C, Iquitos 16002, Peru.
She will take you to the boat where you will go either to the town of Tamshyacu and transfer to another boat to RA or direct.
